XL Axiata leads industry in digital transformation for end-to-end operational efficiency
XL Axiata is the first telco in Southeast Asia uses SAP S/4HANA Cloud.

Jakarta, 20 October 2020 – XL Axiata has become the first telecommunications company (telco) in Southeast Asia uses SAP S/4 HANA Cloud as part of its pioneering strategy in the telco industry to lead digital transformation for end-to-end operations.


Being a leading force in the dynamic and highly demanding telco industry with more than 56.7 million subscribers all over Indonesia, XL Axiata has made its digital transformation initiative as a key component of their business strategy that would create higher efficiency and effectiveness for good governance, decision making and better operational activities.

This has led XL Axiata to turn to SAP for a cloud-based ERP to enhance their efficiency for complete end-to-end telco operations which covers the whole enterprise-wide business processes such as order to cash, procure to pay, record to report and hire to retire. In addition, the SAP S/4HANA Cloud is integrated to the surrounding core systems management such as tower management, sourcing, network assets management and billing.


The cloud capabilities of SAP S/4HANA Cloud also provides a more efficient and simplified IT infrastructure that provides a single source of truth for financial and other company data, helping management to make more strategic decisions from financial dashboards which offer real-time insights, which would make XL Axiata more agile in responding to the market. This will also help XL Axiata to be International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) 16 compliant.


XL Axiata has also been using other SAP cloud Line of Business (LoB) solutions such as Success Factors for HR operations solutions that spans the entire hire to retire lifecycle, and SAP Concur for expense management items such as travel and reimbursements - all of which are integrated in SAP S/4HANA Cloud.


XL Axiata worked with SAP Services for the SAP S/4HANA Cloud implementation. The SAP Services team guided the end-to-end transformation, from initial scoping, business case planning, migration, to project management and support. The entire project was completed on time and via off-site delivery due to the COVID-19 restrictions. XL Axiata’s firm commitment to their digital transformation strategy was evident in the involvement of the whole company – from the C-level executives to their employees during the whole implementation and go-live, working side by side with the SAP Services team.
